Market-Leading Telematics solution smoothly integrated into existing systems
At BUSSMANN the use of IT is the quintessential tool of increasing efficiency and effectiveness in logistic planning. New telematic systems have arrived and now enable a real-time communication of data between the planning office and every vehicle. BUSSMANN has chosen the solution by Punch Telematix, called CarCube, to be their new onboard system. 80 vehicles were equipped within 3 weeks and staff on both sides were trained.
Planning with real-time data
Crucial for BUSSMANN was the link between customer own ERP-solutions and the new planning- and accounting software. There should be no isolated solution, but a system that is open for process integration and future-proof. The key elements of the system are basic technologies such as GPS and well-known programming languages, a though-through man-machine interface and reliable hardware. The communication is without any media discontinuity: The Transport is passed on via drag&drop to the driver and he can confirm unloading to generate the invoice immediately. As there is so much more reliable information available about the location and status of every vehicle, the planners can now really plan ahead and not for the moment.
Cost Reduction with the Drive Style Assistant
Safety, fuel costs and maintenance costs, CO2 emissions, traffic violations, assignments, traffic... A truck driver has a lot on his mind. The driving style assistant by Punch Telematix motivates drivers to adjust their driving habits and put theory into practice. And that results in savings that last. Patrick Mast, Project Leader for Punch at BUSSMANN: "Our drivers were really avid about the CarCube and knew all even about the special functions already before their training. Implementation of CarCube was really an easy job when it came to the drivers."
Personal communication will continue
At BUSSMANN we are keen to make the motto "Only the pros drive for BUSSMANN" vivid. That is why professional communication is also in future not only done by the CarCube, but continues to use mobile phones. But not stand-alone, but integrated in the CarCube. Jens Bussmann, Managing Director: "We trust our drivers, that they perform well and do a good job. Nonetheless we had long calls in the past about simple data such as addresses, how to clean the truck and so forth. Now this part of information is displayed by the system, the calls themselves are all about the important stuff. That goes along with our corporate culture much better." Cost are being decreased nonetheless, but as CarCube is such an important link between office and the drivers, the system was chosen together. Jens Bussmann: "We actually put something new in the living room of our drivers. Therefore we gave them 3 alternatives to work with in their trucks and found Punch to be clearly the leader. As the drivers were part of the decision, there were no long debates about the pros and cons of such a system, the drivers knew that it is not about observation, but improving communication to a mutual advantage."
