BUSSMANN has recently started a new initiative to increase safety on the drivers seat. The SQAS assessed company has started the ongoing process of implemented the procedure of Behaviour Based Safety (BBS). Reducing accidents at the workplace systematically is not alone an aspect of safe vehicles, but especially the drivers behaviour. In cooperation with its customers there have been a lot of improvements on the safety side, management systems such as SQAS, the equipment and regular training have become more and more of a standard in the industry. Since CEFIC SQAS was implemented in 1995, Behaviour Based Safety is the lastest development that is based on the scientific evidence, that it is more fruitful to support a risk avoiding behaviour than to punish failure. BUSSMANN uses the training standards developed by CEFIC and includes it in their SQAS reports in future.

To explain to a driver what BBS is about is actually good to understand: Everyone who has got his license will sooner or later start to adjust his or her driving behvaiour. Those who have often shown a risky behaviour may not change as long as they do not experience an accident. The less response, the less of a change. Sooner or later all the fear of an accident while changing lanes on the motorway is forgotten. But it is not single action, that often leads on an accident. It is the multiplication of risky actions that causes what everybody wants to avoid. Beahvoiur based safety therefore wants to improve the personal understanding of the individual what is risky and what is safe. Drivers are assessed and animated to understand the consequences of their actions themselves.
